Do I need a referral to see a Plastic Surgeon?
It is recommended to obtain a referral from your GP so that you have a medical advisor for advice and reference and you are able to claim your maximum rebate from Medicare on your consultation fee. Referrals from a GP are valid for up to one year. Referrals from a specialist are valid for three (3) months only.
-
How much does a consultation cost?
The cost of an initial consultation will range in price from $150 for a short consultation to $260 for a long consultation.
The cost of a review / follow up consultation will range from $85 for a short consultation to $110 for a long pre-operative consultation and post-op after 3 months.
How long do I have to wait before I can have surgery?
The usual waiting time is approximately 6 – 10 weeks following your initial consultation. However, this can vary depending on our operating schedule. Urgent procedures will be performed expediently.
-
How much will the surgery cost?
This will depend on the type of surgery. You can expect to pay a surgical fee and a anaesthetic fee. Hospital theatre and bed fees may also be payable, especially if the procedure is considered cosmetic. You can be given a written estimation of costs following your consultation.
- What is the difference between a Plastic Surgeon and a cosmetic surgeon?
A fully qualified Plastic Surgeon is someone who has undergone accredited training and has a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. It takes approximately 8 – 10 years of additional training, after graduation from medical school as a doctor, to become a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.
